Retour de l’ITU à Auckland après une absence de 13 ans. De 1995 à 1998, la ville a tenu à chaque année une Coupe du Monde qui a vu triompher sur son parcours : Hamish Carter 2x, Miles Stewart2x , Emma Carney 2x, Michellie Jones et Janet Halfield. L’évènement de cette année sert certainement de test à la grande finale WCS qui s’y tient en 2012.
Pour cette dernière course de la saison, il est difficile de prédire qui est en forme et qui ne l’est pas. La natation se déroulera avec wetsuit sur un parcours traditionnel (2 rectangles de 750m) entre deux quais. Je ne crois pas que l’on sera témoin d’un grand écart à la sortie de l’eau malgré la présence de plusieurs excellents nageurs qui rendront la natation très rapide : Richard Varga (SVK), Tony Dodds (AUS), Dylan McNeice (NZL) et quelques excellents Coréen. De tout façon, les natations sont toujours rapides maintenant.
Chez les femmes, on devrait voir aux avants postes Pamela Nascimento Oliveira (BRA), Andrea Hewitt, une des japonaise et aussi Yun-Jung Jang de la Corée.
Le vélo se déroule sur un parcours technique comportant quelques bosses ce qui devrait rendre cette portion intéressante. On verra peut-être un peu d’action de la part des Néo-Zélandais qui voudront impressionner sur leur terrain.
La course à pied se déroule sur un parcours généralement plat, avec une légère bosse.
On va laisser le jeux des prédictions à notre ami inconnu de ituraces.blogspot.com puisque sa connaissance du sport et des acteurs est bien plus grande que la notre.

– Il y aura une certaine bataille entre Dimitry Gaag (KAZ) et Min Ho Heo (KOR) pour la place Olympique allouée au New Flag d’Asie.

First ITU event in Auckland since 13 years. From 1995 to 1998, the city held a World Cup event and has seen some of the greatest triathletes win on the course : Hamish Carter 2x, Miles Stewart2x , Emma Carney 2x, Michellie Jones and Janet Halfield. This year will certainly serve as a test event for the 2012 WCS Grand final.
For this last race of the year, it’s hard to know who is in form and who’s not. With a wetsuit swim and a traditionnal 2 rectangular 750m lap in between two wharf, I don’t think we can expect a big gap coming out of the water. But, with Richard Varga (SVK), Tony Dodds (AUS), Dylan McNeice (NZL), and some good Korean swimmers, the swim should be a fast one. (Can we say today in ITU triathlon : »expect a slow swim… ».. I don’t think so).
On the women side, we should see at the front Pamela Nascimento Oliveira (BRA), probably one of the Japense, Yun-Jung Jang from Korea and certainly Andrea Hewitt.
A very technical and hilly bike course should make it interesting. Maybe some action from Kiwis athletes in front of their home crowd.
The run course is flat with one hill.
