Tyler Mislawchuk and Camille Delamarre Win Opening Races of National Junior Series in Manitoba

Winnipeg—Manitoba’s Tyler Mislawchuk andQuebec’s Camille Delamarre captured the first titles of the four-race 2013National Junior Triathlon Series at Bird’s Hill Park, Manitoba on Sunday.

The18-year-old Mislawchuk was first out of the first transition after a solid750-metre swim, and pushed hard on the early stages of the 20-kilometre bikecourse where he and two others broke away from a the chase group. The youngWinnipeger, who has represented Canada at the last two Junior WorldChampionships, dusted the field of 41 athletes in the five-kilometre run afterposting a total time of 57 minutes, 41.0 seconds (57:41.0).

“I wasn’t100 per cent but I feel like I’m almost back on track after a few early seasonsetbacks,” said Mislawchuk. “I have a big season ahead of me with my firstWorld Cup scheduled in Edmonton, but my main goal is qualify for worlds. Thisis a good start.”

Mislawchukwas joined on the podium by Quebec’s Xavier Grenier-Talavera in second spot at57:52.1, while Ontario’s Myles Zagar grabbed the bronze with a time of 57:57.4.

Meanwhile,Quebec’s Camille Delamarre captured her first-ever National Junior Series titleafter clocking a time of 1:05:39.1 in the girls race.

Delamarreheld off a charge from Saskatoon’s Gabrielle Edwards who was forced to settlefor second place at 1:05:56.1. Ontario’s Samantha Klus won the race for thebronze medal with a time of 1:06:16.2.

Tha NationalJunior Series is the nation’s premier development race circuit, which allowsathletes and coaches the appropriate focal points for training and monitoringathlete progression. The annual three-race series is used by Triathlon Canadafor World Junior Team and Canada Games selections.

Canada’stop junior triathletes will now head to Edmonton for the second stop of the tour set for June 22.
